Spotlight: Haiti Lacrosse’s International Journey

Every so often, a campaign comes along that captures something larger than itself, a story of representation, ambition, and a nation announcing itself on a new stage. Haiti Lacrosse’s current fundraising effort is one of those stories, and it’s worth a closer look.

The campaign is organized by Stevens Cadet, a member of the Haiti National Lacrosse Team who was recently appointed the program’s Director of Sports Development. The momentum behind it is real and recent: this past summer, Haiti competed in its first-ever international tournament, the COPA 506 in Costa Rica, and made history, finishing 4–1 and winning the championship with a final victory over a Peru side ranked #21 in the world.

That breakthrough has set the stage for a landmark year. Haiti Lacrosse opened its 2026 international campaign at the Heritage Cup at Rider University this past May, and the road ahead only grows bigger. Still to come are two major tournaments:  the PALA World Championship in Jamaica (August 16–23) and the Pan-American Sixes Championship in Oshawa, Canada (September 29–October 4). The PALA World Championship is a qualifier, and the Canadian tournament sits on an Olympic qualifying pathway, a meaningful detail now that lacrosse is officially returning to the Olympic Games. For a developing national program, the chance to compete on that world stage is historic.

But that opportunity comes with real costs. As a young program, the team is responsible for covering its own travel, tournament fees, and equipment. The campaign is raising funds so that financial hardship doesn’t stand between these players and the chance to represent their country, supporting travel to international tournaments, registration and competition fees, team uniforms and gear, and equipment for the athletes.

As of now, the campaign has raised $1,700 toward its $9,000 goal, with 25 donations from supporters who believe in what this team is building. Every contribution, share, and word of encouragement moves the program closer to the field.

At Centre NGO, we spotlight efforts like this because they reflect the same spirit we see across Haitian-led work everywhere: pride, persistence, and the determination to show what’s possible.
