Spotlight on CIPUH: Mental Health Frontliners in Haiti

In a country still grappling with insecurity, displacement, and trauma, the Cellule d’intervention psychothérapeutique d’urgence d’Haïti (CIPUH) offers something often overlooked but urgently needed: mental health support during crisis.

Founded by the Association Haitienne de Psychologie (AHPSY) team, CIPUH provides emergency psychosocial support, trauma-informed care, and crisis response services for Haitians affected by violence, natural disasters, and displacement.

Why Their Work Matters

According to our recent findings:

  • 88.9% of surveyed individuals reported that trauma, grief, and displacement are among the top psychosocial issues in Haiti today.
  • 63.6% of diaspora respondents are willing to fund mental health and crisis support initiatives.
  • 91% say transparency and clarity in mission would increase their giving — something CIPUH offers through structured intervention models and a growing network of trusted partners.

Where CIPUH Operates

From Port-au-Prince to southern Haiti, CIPUH has mobilized psychologists and social workers to provide field-based support, online sessions, and training for other caregivers. They’ve also begun laying the groundwork for community-based response systems in areas most affected by displacement and gender-based violence.

Issues CIPUH Supports

  • Anxiety & Panic (worry, restlessness, heart racing)
  • Depression & Sadness (fatigue, hopelessness, social withdrawal)
  • Trauma & Grief (loss, displacement, disasters, kidnapping)
  • Domestic & Gender-Based Violence (emotional control, abuse, sexual violence)
  • Gun Violence & Insecurity (fear of leaving home, instability)
  • Loneliness & Isolation (loss of community and routine)

Their work aligns with the most pressing mental health needs across the country. Read their April Report in French or English
